Military Concert Tour

This Air National Guard Band concert is part of a larger Chicagoland community relations tour starting at Cantigny on June 23 and ending with a performance for the Chicago White Sox on July 3 & 4. As part of their music education outreach work, the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest invited Naperville K-12 music students to sing two pieces (Thank You, Soldiers and America, the Beautiful) with the band during this performance to highlight the wonderful local music students/programs and their dedicated music educators.

ANGB of the Midwest

Air National Guard Bands are the active duty band’s counterparts in the Air National Guard. ANG musicians are part-time guard members with full-time civilian careers. They rehearse and perform one weekend a month and perform an annual concert tour. ANG bands are a perfect opportunity for musicians who wish to serve their country on a part-time basis.

The ANGB of the Midwest, also known as the 566th Air Force Band, operates from state of the art facilities at the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria, Illinois. Their unit proudly continues a rich musical tradition of serving the soldiers and citizens of the United States.

Their inception can be traced to Gowen Field in Boise, Idaho. On October 1, 1941, they were activated and officially designated the 66th Army Air Force Band and then re-designated as the 566th Army Air Force Band just two years later.

On May 24, 1946, they were assigned to the Illinois Air National Guard and took on the new name 566th Air Force Band. They carried this name for more than 50 years, performing in a variety of venues throughout the world, including Europe and the Caribbean.

In the 1990’s they changed their name to the Air National Guard Band of the Midwest, ushering in a new era of musical excellence.
