North Central College’s Winter Choral Gala features the amazing talents of the The North Central College Choral Program: Cardinal Chorus, Concert Choir, Women’s Chorale, and Chamber Singers. Each groups’s strengths are highlighted in performances of classic melodies, world music, and surprising arrangements of beloved classics, all within the acoustically perfect walls of the Wentz Concert Hall.
In years past, NCTV17 has covered the Choral Program’s Explore the Sound, where dramatic lighting and staging brings to life the talents of the performers, and the grandness of the space. But here, on risers with piano accompaniment, the voices of these performers transcend the space and stir the soul.
The Cardinal Chorus opens the concert with three songs, each highlighting the challenges faced by members of the Cardinal Chorus as they develop basic their foundational choral and vocal skills, such as sight-reading, tone color, and choral diction.
The students of the Chamber Singers may come from a wide variety of academic majors at North Central College, but each of them passed an audition to get on this highly selective and talented choir. These singers perform the very best choral literature at the highest level.
The North Central College Women’s Chorale has a much-earned reputation for warm, expressive women’s choral sound and innovative concert programming and staging. These women, chosen by audition, and representing all academic degree programs, range in age from freshman through senior.
The North Central College Winter Choral Gala concludes with the Concert Choir performing a variety of sacred music, choral classics, spirituals, and folk music from all historical periods. Selected by audition, the members of the 50-voice choir come from states across the nation and represent most academic disciplines on campus.
Their voices resound throughout the beautiful Wentz Concert Hall, bringing to life songs from all corners of the globe, and throughout history.
