Washington St. Bridge Replaced Next Year:

Replacement of the downtown Washington Street Bridge could begin next year. At today’s Riverwalk Commission meeting, Bill Novack, director of transportation, engineering and development for the City of Naperville, said he’s been working on getting approval from the state to start construction in the second half of 2020. The bridge was last renovated in 2004, and its foundation was put in place in 1928. The city hosted two open houses in 2017 to gather public input on the revamp, which should take about 11 months. Costs for the project are estimated to be between $5.6 and $6 million dollars, with 80 percent covered by federal funding.

Summer Activities Fair:

Yesterday the Indian Prairie Parents’ Council hosted their 11th annual Student Summer Activities Fair. Over 45 vendors attended the event at Still Middle School. Exhibitors were onsite with information about summertime academic classes, stem activities, music classes, sport camps, as well as volunteer opportunities for teens. If you couldn’t make it to the event you can visit District 204’s website for information on the exhibitors at the event.

NWC Record Fundraising Season:

The Naperville Woman’s Club donated a record $61,000 for good over their 2018/2019 season: a 17 percent increase over their efforts from the previous year. $49,100 of that went to local charities and agencies, with their focus charity SamaraCare, an interfaith mental health-counseling group, receiving a $16,000 portion. They also awarded three $5,000 scholarships to local students pursuing degrees in education, human services and fine arts.

Warriors to United Center:

The Warriors Hockey Club is heading back to the United Center. The team, made up of players from Metea Valley and Waubonsie Valley, defeated Leyden by a score of 4 to 1 in last night’s semi final. The Warriors march on to the combined division state championship for the second straight year where they will face Glenbard at the UC on March 22nd at 9:15pm. The Illinois West conference champions are looking for their first state title since 2014.
