5th Avenue Baseline Concept
Last night, Ryan Companies presented its baseline concept for the 5th Avenue Development Project. It combines the two concepts from last year, and adds more parking and affordable housing. Some residents were concerned with affordable housing not being spread throughout the development and its potential impact on nearby schools. Others were still concerned with the scale of the project, though it did decrease in density from 400 down 275-300 multifamily units. Ryan estimates the baseline concept would cost about $287 million, which is almost $66 million less than the previous concepts. The 5th Avenue Steering Committee will meet on Monday evening next week to discuss their thoughts on the designs and public’s input, after which, it will be discussed at the October 1 Naperville City Council meeting.
Toast to Nicki Anderson
It was an emotional evening yesterday as Nicki Anderson was honored at the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce “Toast to Our Members” event at North Central College. Anderson, the chamber’s president and CEO, will be leaving her position this fall, after achieving goals and milestones throughout her tenure. The chamber is currently conducting interviews to see who will be its next leader.
Passport Europe at Arboretum
If you missed the boat on a European vacation this summer, don’t fret! The Morton Arboretum’s Passport Europe Festival this weekend will have sights and sounds from all corners of the continent. From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday, visitors can experience traditional music, dances, cuisine, and more. The festival is free with arboretum admission.
Guzman y Gomez
An Australian-based Mexican restaurant is opening its first American location in Naperville. Guzman y Gomez offers Mexican fare for all three meals and will also have a drive-thru option. The chain plans to open at 1519 Naper Boulevard in early 2020.
