Hero Sheriff’s Intern:
Quick thinking from an intern at the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office led to an arrest of a wanted fugitive. Yesterday, Sheriff James Mendrick recognized 22-year-old Frank Ficarra for coming to the aid of Corporal Eduardo Castillo when a suspect resisted arrest. Ficarra, unarmed and wearing a Kevlar vest, jumped from the squad car to assist. The ceremony included Ficarra being awarded the Commendation of Excellence. Friends and family members of Ficarra were in attendance, including Castillo, who said if Ficarra wasn’t there things could’ve gone a lot worse.
Dancing With the Celebrities Winner:
There was no split decision at last night’s Dancing with the Celebrities. Seven local celebrities took the floor in hopes of lifting the Grand Mirror Ball trophy. The dances ranged from Bollywood to the Backstreet Boys, but it was Paul Novak and his partner Jaana Lillemagi who took home the top prize with their routine full of show stopping moves. The annual competition was held at Meson Sabika and serves as a fundraiser for the Career and Networking Center, which provides resources to the unemployed and underemployed in the Naperville area.
