Aurora Pride Parade
A sea of rainbow flags flooded the streets of Aurora on Sunday, as the city celebrated its second annual Pride Parade. The event saw over 15,000 people, including community members from Naperville. This year’s parade almost didn’t happen, after it was briefly cancelled in April due to increasing costs. However a fundraising campaign allowed for the city to keep it on after raising $20,00 in a single day. Event organizers say the parade should return next year.
Canine Calendar
Do you have a photogenic pet? Well the Forest Preserve District of Will County is looking for dogs that can strike a pose for a 2020 calendar. The dogs must have a current permit for the forest preserve dog parks, be socialized, have current rabies vaccinations and be able to follow basic commands. $10 of each $15 canine calendar will go to the Will County Humane Society. You can submit a photo of your dog on the forest preserve website by July 7 for a chance to get featured.
SilverSneakers Award
Congratulations to Pat Fuller, a Fort Hill Activity Center member who’s nominated for the SilverSneakers annual Swanson Inspiration Award. The nationwide senior fitness membership program provides free fitness memberships for qualified adults age 65 and up at member fitness facilities. Pat is one of ten finalists nationwide and the only Illinois competitor. The national winner is determined by online voting, which is available from today through June 17.
Soccer Play of the Year
And congrats also go out to recent Naperville North grad Colin Iverson on being named the Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year. Iverson helped lead the Huskies to a third consecutive state championship, scoring the game winning goal in the state final against Libertyville. This is the third straight season a Naperville North player has earned this award. Goalie Tom Welch won last season and forward Chris Sullivan was honored two years ago.
