Casey’s Foods Sold
Casey’s Foods announced this morning that the grocery store has been sold to longtime employee Kris Visher. The business was started in 1969 by Mike Casey and Mike Kelly, who passed the store on to Mike’s son Dan Casey. Visher joined the store in 2005 as business manager, HR manager, and accountant. Dan Casey will stay with the company as an executive officer.
Natural Gas Fueling Station
Construction on a compressed natural gas fueling station is expected to begin next month. Naperville City Council approved the structure and agreed to a ten-year lease to Trillium Transportation Fuels in November. The station will provide fuel to at least three city vehicles, Naperville’s trash and recycling collector Groot Industries, and public vehicles that operate via CNG. Construction could be complete as early as October.
District 204
The District 204 school board approved several new assistant principals. At last night’s meeting, Sherry Fredericks was announced as the new assistant principal at Granger Middle School. Courtney DiFiore will be replacing recently-promoted Scott Loughrige at Scullen Middle School. And Melissa Wilson will take over the assistant principal position at Neuqua Valley after Lance Fuhrer was promoted to principal at the high school.
Pitch Night
In the style of “Shark Tank”, INCubator Pitch Night gave these District 203 high schoolers a chance to expand their very own business ideas. After working all semester long, five groups of students from Naperville Central and Naperville North pitched their final products to a panel of expert judges. It was all for the chance to expand their businesses with funding from the Naperville Education Foundation. In the end, Turf Breaker’s waterproof cleat cover won the top prize of $12,000, Oracle Straw received $9,000, and Style 360 won $3,000. Former Redhawk Called Up to Majors
Congratulations also go out to former Naperville Central baseball star Nicky Lopez. The former Redhawk has been called up to the major leagues by the Kansas City Royals prior to tonight’s game against the Texas Rangers. The 24-year-old infielder was selected by the Royals in the fifth round of the 2016 draft and was hitting over .350 in AAA. Lopez will be the first ever Naperville Central alum to play Major League Baseball. If you want to catch Lopez in action, the Royals will be in Chicago to play the White Sox from May 27-29.
