Chamber President Stepping Down This Fall:
The leader of the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce is stepping down. This fall, president and CEO Nicki Anderson will be leaving the role she’s held since February 2014. In a letter sent to the chamber yesterday, she recalled accomplishments like growing the Young Professionals Network, updating technology, and improving communication systems. Anderson says it’s not easy to leave, and though she did not share what her next step is, she did say, “I have an idea on things that matter to me and areas that are my strength, so who knows? Stay tuned.”
Hazardous Waste Facility Financed:
The DuPage County Board voted yesterday to continue to help finance the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility in Naperville. The board approved an agreement to provide up to $100,000 to help fund operation of the collection site, which is one of just four of its type in Illinois. The site is a drop-off for items like household cleaners, oil based paints and asbestos materials. The majority of users for the facility are from Naperville, a fact that caused some board members to wonder if DuPage County should continue to help foot the bill. Additional funding for the site comes from Naperville, Aurora, and Kane and Will counties.
Heatherstone Park Renovations:
The Naperville Park District, along with help from some kids, hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday to officially re-open Heatherstone Park. Parents watched while kids enjoyed the updated playground, complete with swings, slides, and a 65-foot long zip line. Neighbors were able to weigh-in on the revamp, which includes areas for both little kids and bigger ones. This is the first of several updated parks the district will be unveiling this year.
Little League City Championships:
The final three Naperville Little League City Championships were held at Nike Park last night. In the Supreme A Championship, Platinum Partners Realtors took a 5-0 lead to the bottom of the 6th and held off a furious rally from American Legion Post 43. PPR managed to get three straight strikeouts with the bases loaded to end the game and win 5-4.
In the Rookies AA Championship, Kiwani’s built an early 5-1 lead behind pitching and defense, but with the bases loaded and two outs, team Bryan Black Law got a walk off infield single to win the championship 6 to 5.
In the Majors A Championship, Hallstrom State Farm trailed American Legion Post 43 6-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th. State Farm put a couple runs on the board to put the pressure on, but the American Legion pitcher made a diving catch to end the game and secure a 6-3 championship victory for his team. Congratulations to all the little league players on a great season.
The softball city championships will be held Thursday and Friday evening.
