Chase Ends in Naperville Crash:
A Bolingbrook police officer struck yesterday at the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident has been treated and released from the hospital. Just after 5:10 p.m. yesterday, the officer was struck by a car while at the scene of the accident on Boughton Road. The driver sped off, leading police on a chase into Naperville, ending in a crash on Naper Boulevard, between River Woods Drive and Washington Street. Gunfire ensued, leaving bullet holes in the suspect’s vehicle, though no information was released on the exact number of shots fired. The offender, who was driving a stolen car from Aurora, was treated for non-life threatening injuries and released into police custody.
New Jeopardy Record:
James Holzhauer has topped himself – breaking his own single-day winnings record on Jeopardy with a haul of $131,127 on yesterday’s show. His old record, set just last week, was $110,914. What’s more, he had what’s seen as a perfect game, coming in with the correct answer for all 41 of his responses. This was the tenth straight win for the Naperville native, whose total winnings now stand at $697.787.
Little Friends Property Rezoned:
Little Friends is a step closer to moving to its new location. Last night the Planning and Zoning Commission voted in favor of rezoning their property to a College/University designation, as petitioned by the site’s buyer, North Central College. The site is bounded by School Street, Wright Street, Columbia Street, and Franklin Avenue, sitting just north of North Central College’s main campus and in the historic district. Although future development plans have yet to be decided, the site was identified for future growth in the college’s Master Land Use Plan 2010-2020. The sale will go through in January 2020. Little Friends plans to move into a more up-to-date facility on Diehl Road and Mill Street by June 2020.
Chef Showdown
Loaves and Fishes hosted its second annual Chef Showdown fundraiser last night. Executive Chef Crispin Plata from Meson Sabika, with the help of sous chefs Rebecca Boyd-Obarski and Dave Kelsch, took on Executive Chef Mark Grimes of Che Figata, and his team of Laura Bokar and Joe Chura. The two teams squared off using the appropriate secret ingredients of a loaf of bread and fish, presenting their appetizer, main course, and dessert to the judges. The top chef title went to Mark Grimes and his team, but the real winner was Loaves and Fishes, who will use the proceeds to support their mission of stopping hunger.
