Citizen of the Year
The Naperville American Legion Post 43 hosted its annual Citizen of the Year awards on Saturday. The winners in the three categories were chosen because of their volunteer hours within each service. Congratulations to Joe Labut for service to community, Rich Yndestad for service to veterans, and Alissa Johnson Tripas for service to youth. The ceremony also recognized two scholarship winners and honored past commanders of the post.
Camp Hope Registration
Registration for Edward Cancer Center’s Camp Hope is open. This is the 15th year for the weeklong summer camp for children ages 6-12 who have a parent or close family member living with cancer. Campers will take part in fun and therapeutic activities like art, music, and yoga. Registration is free and must be completed prior to May 30.
Half Marathon Fundraising Bonus
Registration is also open for the Naperville Education Foundation’s team that will race in the Healthy Driven Naperville Half Marathon and 5K. A special incentive for the team this year is a $1000 bonus to be awarded to the District 203 school with the highest percentage of runners from their school participating. Currently, there are 133 runners on the team for the race on October 20.
Jaycees Egg Hunt
Kids celebrated Easter one day early on Saturday, at the Jaycees Easter Egg Hunt in Frontier Park. Though the morning was windy, the little ones didn’t let the weather stop them from hunting for sweets and treats in the 14,000 scattered eggs. They also got the chance to meet the Easter Bunny who was there to take in all the fun. It was an egg-citing way to start the holiday.
