Coyne Running for County Board
Naperville City Councilman Kevin Coyne has announced he’s running for the DuPage County Board. Serving on city council since 2015, Coyne has filed as a Republican candidate for DuPage County’s District 5, which serves Naperville, Aurora, and parts of Warrenville, Lisle and Woodridge. Coyne’s seat on the dais expires in April of 2021. The news comes after longtime board member Jim Healy announced earlier this week that he would not be seeking reelection in 2020 for the District 5 seat.
Buttonwood Park
At last night’s Naperville Park District board meeting, commissioners decided to continue with the Park Meadow Project planned for Buttonwood Park despite resident pushback. The Park Meadow Project converts turf grass into low prairie grass in areas that experience heavy water retention in an attempt to absorb more water. Area residents say that the park doesn’t flood as much as the park district believes, and the open space is a hub for recreation in Buttonwood and surrounding subdivisions. Commissioners voted 4-3 to move forward with the project, but reduce the scope to only convert the area south of the playground. However, many residents were still disappointed with the decision.
Police Storytime
The Naper Boulevard Library had a special guest for storytime this morning. Officer Matt Fletcher stopped by to read the book “Officer Buckle and Gloria” to a group of eager listeners. The fun included some dancing, photo ops with Officer Fletcher, and even a close up look at a police car. Harvest Moon
And today is Friday the 13th, but it’s a little bit creepier because a rare Harvest Moon will appear in tonight’s sky. This is the first time a full moon has appeared on a Friday the 13th in nearly 20 years. NASA says the best times to look up will be at 11:30 p.m. and the full moon will last through Sunday. The September full moon is called the Harvest Moon because of when corn is supposed to be harvested, and it’s the closest to the autumn equinox.
