District 203
At the latest District 203 School Board Meeting, the group discussed their rules about students being able to self-medicate and the potential use of medical cannabis in school. Students that need to self-medicate and want to store medical cannabis would need to have documents like a School Medication Authorization form and valid registry identification card. The medical cannabis would be locked and stored in the nurse’s office and the board will make a final decision at the next meeting.
NCC Athlete Gives Back
Over the weekend a North Central College athlete gave the gift of warmth to those less fortunate. Eric Outlaw, a senior on the Cardinal’s baseball team, stuffed a truckload of backpacks filled with winter essentials and handed them out to the homeless in Chicago. Outlaw said the idea of Backpacks Across Chicago started just over a month ago, and has already made an impact on people’s lives.
Cup of Cheer
Homes decorated from top to bottom in Christmas adornments will be toured this Thursday, as the Naperville Garden Club will go on the 58th annual Cup of Cheer walk. This year is extra special, as the group is celebrating their 90th anniversary. The tour isn’t just for sightseeing, but also gives back as the proceeds will go towards the Garden Club’s programs and scholarships for local students pursuing degrees in horticulture and environmental sciences.
Giving Tuesday
If you’ve taken advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals over the past few days, consider supporting your local nonprofits with Giving Tuesday. The initiative started in 2012 as a way to encourage people to support their communities during the holiday season. Several area nonprofits gathered at the 5th Avenue Train station this morning to pass out cards encouraging people to get involved with Giving Tuesday. You can go to napervillegives.org for more information on how to donate or get involved with an organization that speaks to you.
