Don’t Be A Jerk:

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is asking residents not to be jerks. Their new multimedia campaign “Don’t Be A Jerk” is designed to get visitors to behave in preserves and treat trails with respect. The campaign is in response to complaints about littering, dog poop, and people hogging trails. It also aims to help protect wildlife, which can be harmed by some improperly disposed trash. You can check out the preserve’s website for tips on how not to be a jerk.

Garden Club Turns 90:

The Naperville Garden Club celebrated their 90th anniversary yesterday quite appropriately, by going on a garden walk. Traveling in a trolley the club visited several members’ homes to check out their own garden designs. The special celebration included a special serenade with some music meant to imitate nature. If you’re interested in joining the club you can sign up on their webpage.

New Community Gardens:

Also yesterday, Loaves & Fishes Community Services got in on some gardening of their own. They partnered up with The GardenWorks Project to build community gardens near their facility. The gardens will grow fresh produce that will be available to clients of the hunger relief agency.

Crayon Drive:

All three Naperville libraries are participating in a crayon drive to help Community Access Naperville, or CAN, a not-for-profit that supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The organization recycles crayons and peels, sorts, and bakes the coloring tools into special molds that create fun shapes. The molds are then sold to raise money for CAN and its programs. You can drop off crayons in the green bins at the libraries through the end of June.
