Environmental Town Hall
State Representative Grant Wehrli and State Senator Laura Ellman hosted an environmental town hall this weekend at North Central College. Along with a panel of experts, the group discussed Illinois’ environmental issues, and how to improve our carbon footprint. Suggestions included opting for ride-sharing companies and electric cars, while also emphasizing education as a way to propel those changes.
LEGO League Grant
District 203 has received a special grant that will enhance STEM opportunities. The grant comes from the Amazon Future Engineering Robotics program with FIRST, or For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The grant will enable the creation of robotics clubs and will provide an additional $10,000 for computer science education. Currently a few Naperville 203 schools participate in the FIRST LEGO League program with Naperville Education Foundation (NEF) funding. NEF’s mission is to encourage creativity, innovation and excellence in their students. This Amazon grant will help to expand elementary participation.
Wolf’s Crossing Park
And it’s official – Southwest Community Park has been renamed to Wolf’s Crossing Community Park. The Naperville Park District board of commissioners voted for the renaming of the 33-acre site at last week’s meeting. It first came as a suggestion from Ginny Wolf Chivas, a descendant of the Wolf family that settled the area. Groundbreaking for the park will take place on June 19.
Itzy Ritzy on MTV
A local Naperville store will be featured on MTV. Itzy Ritzy storeowners Kelly and Brian Douglas will be seen in tonight’s episode of MTV’s Teen Mom 2. That’s because they’ve collaborated with the show’s reality stars Chelsea and Cole DeBoer and have helped them design their baby clothes collection – “Chelsea and Cole”. Itzy Ritzy is hosting a viewing party of the episode tonight at 8.
