Goodbye Ribfest
Naperville said its goodbye to Ribfest this Fourth of July weekend. Attendees munched on ribs, jammed out to the music, got dizzy on carnival rides, and enjoyed tons of other activities the local event had to offer for its last nights at Knoch. Out of the 11 rib vendors, third-time champ Uncle Bub’s won the best ribs, sauce and kids choice awards. Also this year, the Exchange Club of Naperville brought in food trucks and the world’s largest cocktail shaker as new additions. The event has been held at Knoch Park since 1989. Next year you’ll have to roam to Romeoville, where Ribfest is slated to be held due to construction coming to the park.
Little Friends Meeting
Neighbors of the Little Friends property on North Central College’s campus will get to meet with representatives tomorrow about their plans for the land. If the college purchases the property in January as planned, they hope to construct a three-story health sciences graduate building. That would require the demolition of the historic Kroehler home, which led to neighbors voicing concerns at a recent city council meeting. The site plan will be presented at the meeting, which takes place tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Wentz Science Center.
Scholarship Awarded
And congrats go out to Katharine Marshall, the daughter of Naperville Police Chief Bob Marshall, for receiving the 2019 Officer David White Scholarship. Katharine was selected for the $2,000 award, from the Naperville Park District, for her record of service to others and her passion to prepare for a nursing career. The scholarship is named after Park District Officer David White, who attended the recognition, along with Park District Police Chief Carl Schnibben.
