James Holzhauer Donation

James Holzhauer is back in the news after making a generous donation to a local cause. Holzhauer donated $1,109.14 of his nearly $2.5 million in winnings to the Naperville Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. Naperville resident Ann Zediker started the charity event after her father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2010. Knowing Jeopardy host Alex Trebek is fighting the disease as well, she invited Holzhauer to this year’s walk. Holzhauer, who lives in Las Vegas, responded saying he won’t be in town, but made the donation in honor of “Alex Trebek and all the other survivors.” And in classic Jeopardy James fashion, the donation amount is his daughter’s birthday, November 9, 2014.

Dilly Bar Golf Outing

You can help raise money and awareness for suicide prevention at this Sunday’s fifth annual Dilly Bar Charity Golf Outing. The fundraiser started after a local teen Jonathan Kaden died by suicide in 2011. Kaden worked at a Naperville Dairy Queen owned by Karen Moloney, who created the golf event in Kaden’s honor. Though Karen died from cancer last August, the event will continue to raise funds for the cause. The outing is a chance to bring the community together and raise money for the Jeff Yalden Foundation, whose mission is to prevent suicide and improve mental health. For more information, you can check out the event’s webpage.

Classic Car Show

The cloudy skies couldn’t keep spectators and car owners away from the Classic Car Show in Downtown Naperville. About 90 owners showed off their vintage vehicles at the show, taking Naperville residents on a ride back in history for the fifth year. Car fans were able to see a 1966 Ford Mustang convertible, a 1973 Cadillac Eldorado, and even a 1953 John Deere 40 tractor, affectionately known as Bob.

International Football

The North Central College football team continued its semi-annual tradition of competing in exhibition games across Europe through Global Football. Yesterday the Cardinals traveled to the Czech Republic to face the Prague Black Panthers. After falling behind early, NCC rallied for a 32-16 victory over the hosts from Prague in a friendly and competitive matchup. North Central kicks off the regular season on September 7.
