Jeopardy Journey Over
For the first time in two months, Jeopardy has a new champion. Naperville native James Holzhauer‘s historic 33-game run on the show came to an end yesterday at the hands of Chicago librarian Emma Boettcher. The loss came during a game in which Holzhauer was expected to pass Ken Jennings’ record for most money won on the show – prompting friends, family, and fans to gather at Two Brothers Barrel House. Though some in the audience, including James’ brother Ian knew the result after footage leaked yesterday morning, others were shocked at the loss. However, Ian spoke with the crowd, encouraging them with a promise of a showdown with Jennings in the future.
Ribfest’s Final Acts
The Last Night at Knoch has its final acts. Naperville’s Ribfest announced an additional four acts that will close out the festival. On July 6 ZZ Ward, a blues grit and hip-hop bounce performer, will open for Bad Company. Following will be 70’s rock band Grand Funk Railroad, along with The Empty Pockets, an indie rock band from Chicago. Check out the Ribfest website for tickets, for the event that kicks off on July 3.
Scott Pelley Book Talk
Last night, Community Christian Church’s Yellow Box Theater was full as award-winning journalist Scott Pelley took the stage. The former CBS Evening News anchor and now 60 Minutes correspondent read from and discussed his new memoir “Truth Worth Telling.” He spoke about notable experiences as a journalist and answered questions from the audience.
New Principal
And congratulations go out to Maplebrook Elementary’s new principal Araceli Ordaz. She comes to District 203 with experience as the Director of Elementary Education at East Aurora School District 131 among many other professional accomplishments. Ordaz will replace principal Ryan DeBora beginning July 1.
