Master Plan Workshop
Naperville recently hired Houseal Lavigne Associates as a consultant to remake its Comprehensive Master Plan. Last week, they held two workshops for residents to find out what issues are important to the people of Naperville. Last night, they did the same but for Naperville City Council and members of other city boards and commissions. The participants went around the room offering ideas the master plan should address, such as affordable housing, the 5th Avenue Redevelopment project, and sustainability. If you were unable to attend last week’s meetings, you can still participate online at the city’s website or by picking up a DIY kit at the municipal center to host your own meeting.
100 Years of Post 43
The Naperville American Legion Post 43 commemorated their 100th anniversary today with a flag raising ceremony at the Dan Shanower Memorial. The celebration included the presentation of colors, rifle salute, and the playing of “Taps.” The post was also recognized last week, when Mayor Steve Chirico proclaimed today, June 25, to be Post 43 Day in Naperville. You can find 100th anniversary banners on Aurora Avenue and Washington Street light poles.
Bike to Work Week
It’s Bike to Work Week. This morning Sheriff James Mendrick and other bikers joined DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin to pedle down the Illinois Prairie Path. Starting their ride in Elmhurst, the group made their way to the DuPage County Administration Center in Wheaton, where Chairman Cronin recognized Bike to Work Week in DuPage. It’s all an effort to be more environmentally conscious by reducing carbon emissions, and encouraging the community to get outdoors.
Little League Champs
Congratulations to this year’s winners of the Naperville Little League City Championships! In the Supreme AA division title game, Chicago Premium Outlets avenged two early season losses by defeating the highest scoring team in the league, Meatheads, by a score of 16-5. The Majors AA Championship got competitive between Platinum Partners Realtors and Ambrose Plumbing. Ambrose Plumbing was able to hang on for the 7-4 win behind pitcher Grant Umbright and his incredible 14 strikeouts through only six innings.
