Meat Recall:

Before you fire up the grill this weekend, take a close look at your meat labels. More than 62,000 pounds of raw beef products are being recalled due to possible E. coli contamination. The Aurora Packing Company is recalling products packed on April 19 at their Aurora plant after sample testing done by the USDA’s Food and Safety Inspection Service raised concern. More than 40 products shipped out nationwide are included in the recall, ranging from steaks to briskets. The recalled products have “EST. 788” written inside their USDA mark of inspection. You can see a full list on the Food Safety and Inspection Service website.

95th Street Community Plaza Groundbreaking:

Library staff and city officials gathered yesterday for the groundbreaking of the 95th Street Community Plaza. The $3.6 million dollar project was the brainchild of 95th Street Library manager Karen Dunford. The Naperville Park District will take the empty space just south of the library, and transform it into a plaza, with amenities like a band shell, splash pad, and playground. Construction is expected to be complete by Memorial Day weekend 2020.

Over The Edge Fundraiser:

Operation Support our Troops-America has a new fundraising endeavor that could bring their group to new heights. Yesterday at the Hotel Arista, the Naperville based non-profit announced their Over The Edge campaign, in which those who raise over $1,000 for the cause can rappel down the side of Hotel Arista…all 13 stories. The big event will take place September 14, and will include food, music, and interactive displays. Proceeds will go into funding programs for Operation Support our Troops-America. You can register to take part on the group’s website.

Buddy Poppy Days:

Buddy poppies are popping up throughout Naperville. As part of their annual poppy drive, Folks from the Judd Kendall VFW will be handing out the red flowers as a way to remember those who’ve made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The City of Naperville proclaimed May 22 through the 27th as VFW’s poppy days, during which you can pick one up at various spots around town, like Casey’s or the downtown Starbucks.

Wearable Tech Talk:

Yesterday evening, hub88, a local technology acceleration center, focused on wearable technology at their monthly tech talk. The event featured three panelists, each showing off different wearable tech, and speaking about issues and struggles they’ve faced with it. The new tech seeks to offer solutions to real-world problems like never worrying about where your kids may be, with the help of a tracking device.
