Milk House Moves To Settlement:
Yesterday, Naper Settlement got a new addition. The museum welcomed the Milk House, now the 31st building on their campus, and the first to be relocated there in 36 years. The Milk House dates back to the early 1900s, and was once used to store milk before it was moved to a creamery. Its original home was Maple Knoll Dairy Farm right here in Naperville, which eventually became Case Dairy Farm. Ten grandchildren of that farm’s owner donated the building to Naper Settlement. Visitors to the museum will be able to start exploring it next April.
Kroehler Mansion Demo Decision Goes To Council:
Tomorrow night Naperville City Council will hear from Little Friends as they appeal the decision by the Historic Preservation Commission that prohibits them from demolishing Kroehler Mansion. On October 24, the commission voted to allow the non-profit to be able to clear all the buildings on its campus in the historic district, except for the over-100 year old mansion. Little Friends hopes to get that decision reversed, to allow them to level their entire property to make it ready for sale at the maximum price. They plan to use the funds from the sale to relocate to a new campus. Preservationists argue that the mansion, built by former Naperville mayor and furniture magnate Peter Kroehler, is an important part of Naperville history.
Run to Remember:
Over 270 people gathered at the Huskies Run to Remember 5K in honor of high school student, Lucas Gerber, who died by suicide in 2017. His cross-country team at Naperville North High School hosted the event. They will donate the money raised to Hope for the Day, an organization that helps with suicide prevention and the Megan Meier Foundation.
Award For DuPage Forest Preserve District:
Congratulations to the DuPage Forest Preserve District, who’ve won the platinum Excellence in Ecological Restoration Award from Chicago Wilderness. The honor was given for their restoration work at the 1,829-acre Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve. The award highlights those making improvements to natural areas that benefit both wildlife and people.
Benet Wins State:
The fantastic fall season for Benet Academy athletics continued this weekend. The Redwings girls’ volleyball team knocked off rival Marist on Friday night in the state semifinals and on Saturday, cruised to a two set state championship victory over Wheaton Warrenville South. It’s the 4th state volleyball championship for the program, Benet also won in 2011, 2012 and 2014. The 2019 Redwings finished the year with a 41-1 record and a top ten national ranking.
