Affordable Housing Report

The Illinois Housing Development Authority named Naperville as one of 46 Illinois towns with insufficient affordable housing. According to the report, only 7.5 percent of Naperville’s housing units qualify as affordable, up from 6.3 percent when the city was named in the housing authority’s 2013 report. The city will have until June 2020 to submit a plan to the state to raise the percentage of affordable housing to the recommended 10 percent.

Hemp Defined in City Ordinance

The Naperville Liquor Commission proposed adding a definition of hemp to the city code at its latest meeting. The commission voted unanimously to recommend the change, in the hopes of clarifying that, while cannabis is illegal to possess, hemp is not. The change comes in the wake of at least one business looking to sell CBD or cannabidiol products in Naperville. The products would be required to contain a concentration of no more than 0.3 percent THC, the psychoactive component of the marijuana plant. The ordinance change will now go before Naperville City Council.
