Naperville’s Block Party
It was a wake up party on Jackson Avenue this morning, as the WGN Morning News crew held their annual Summer Neighborhood Block Party in Naperville. Thousands of residents came out for music, kid-friendly activities like bounce houses, and a mini-parade featuring over 40 community organizations. The closed off streets of Webster and Jackson opened back up at noon. That’s where the annual Summer Sidewalk Sales have begun for the weekend. More information on the stores participating can be found on the Downtown Naperville website.
Two Bostons Dog Walk
It’s the dog days of summer, so what better time to take your best friend on a walk. You can do just that at the Downtown Naperville’s Two Bostons weekly community dog walk. The “paw-pular” group meets for a 45 minute evening stroll near the riverwalk. The walks take place every Thursday, weather permitting, starting at 6:30 p.m. You can go to Two Bostons website for more information.
Remembering Justin Wegner
And we send our sympathies to the friends and family of Justin Wegner. A 2015 Naperville Central graduate who starred for both the football and baseball teams, before doctors discovered a rare type of soft tissue sarcoma, a form of cancer, in 2016. The #JWEGSTRONG became a rallying cry for Justin’s fight, as well as cancer awareness, drawing the attention of pro athletes like Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant, and former Naperville Central star Nicky Lopez. After over three years of battling through chemotherapy and radiation, Justin passed away on July 10 at the age of 22.
