First Day for New Chamber CEO:
Community members gathered at North Central College’s Wentz Science Center this morning, as the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce welcomed in its new president and CEO. Kaylin Risvold starts her new role as the chamber’s leader today, replacing Nicki Anderson who held the position for the last five and a half years. Risvold said she will continue to build off the success of Anderson, getting to know potential and current members of the chamber. In the next few months she will do more research with her team to put together their strategic plan, set for release on July 1, 2020.
Downtown Streetscapes Input:
The City of Naperville is inviting residents to weigh in on the Downtown Streetscape Project Improvements. They will hold an input session with three presentations on October 29 at the Naperville Municipal Center, giving an overview of the downtown revamp, and providing opportunity for feedback. Targeted for upgrades are sections of Webster, Jefferson, Main and Jackson streets. The public input session runs from 4 to 7:30 p.m., with presentations at 4:30, 5:30, and 6:30 p.m. More information and opportunity for feedback can be found on the city’s website.
New DuPage Sheriff App:
The DuPage County Sheriff’s office has launched a new app. The smartphone application can be used to report anonymous crime tips, check the area for registered sex offenders, view current DuPage County Jail inmates, and see job opportunities within the sheriff’s office. It also allows the sheriff’s office to reach out to the public with notifications during emergencies. The app is free, and can be found by searching “DuPage IL Sheriff” in the App Store.
Metea Presidential Award Winner:
A Metea Valley High School teacher recently received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Math and Science Teaching. Natalie Johnson was given the honor in Washington, D.C. There she got to spend time with fellow recipients, and received a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation, along with a certificate signed by the president. The Indian Prairie District 204 Board congratulated Johnson at their latest meeting. Johnson was one of only four Illinois teachers to receive the honor, which is given to educators for their dedication to STEM education and exceptional work in the classroom.
Meson Sabika Offers Free Thanksgiving To Those in Need:
Meson Sabika is once again extending a gift to those in need on Thanksgiving. The Spanish tapas restaurant is currently accepting reservations for a complimentary Thanksgiving meal from those who may be dealing with financial, emotional, or physical challenges. Seatings are between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Reservations are required, and can be made by calling 630-983-3000, ext. 2. The restaurant has been providing this service since 2001.
