Naperville Woman Witnesses Notre Dame Fire
As the Notre Dame Cathedral burned, a Naperville resident was there to witness the destruction. Jewelry designer Sophia Forero was in Paris with her husband yesterday when the two caught sight of the iconic cathedral in flames. She said she was shocked and moved to tears by what she saw, and ashes from the fire came down on them. Authorities in Paris are still investigating the cause of the fire, but have said it was likely accidental. Donations for the reconstruction of the 850-year-old landmark have already topped $700 million.
SCARCE Design Challenge
From a four-level farm to a “green” animal shelter, the SCARCE Sustainable Design Challenge gave high school students the chance to try their hand at sustainable building. Students from Metea and Waubonsie participated across three categories: Best Overall LEED Design, Best Stormwater Management Design, and Best Energy Efficient Design. A panel of judges scored each project and the top teams took home home cash prizes.
NACC Four Under 40 Winners
The Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce has announced 2019’s Four Under 40 award winners. Harley Jones of 360 Youth Services, Catherine Ross of Ross Creative Works, Matt Doyle of Cross Country Mortgage, and Renee Miklosik of the DuPage Children’s Museum will receive the awards to honor their leadership in community and business, excellence in career, and balance in life. The ceremony will be held at Elements at Water Street on April 23 at 5 p.m.
Grace Seiboldt
Special Olympian Grace Seiboldt is being recognized at tonight’s Naperville City Council meeting when the council proclaims April 16, 2019 as Grace Seiboldt Day. The swimmer recently won a gold medal and two silver medals at the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi. Congratulations Grace!
