Pot Sales Referendum On March Ballot:
Naperville voters will see a referendum question about recreational marijuana sales on the March 17, 2020 ballot. Naperville City Council voted 5-4 last night to put the non-binding referendum on whether marijuana should be sold in Naperville on the primary ballot. Some council members and public speakers felt the November presidential election would be a better date, as voter turnouts are expected to be higher. However others said nothing is stopping voters from going to the polls in March and holding the referendum later is just kicking the can down the road. Council also voted to use the wording of the question proposed by city staff, “Shall the City of Naperville, in light of state legislation legalizing the possession, consumption, and sale of recreational adult use cannabis, allow the sale of recreational adult use cannabis within its jurisdiction?”

The online restaurant-reservation company included the Spanish tapas restaurant in their first-ever 50 Best Restaurants for a Date in America list. It was one of only six in Illinois to make the list, which was compiled using dinner reviews from OpenTable diners made from Sept. 1 2018 through Aug. 31, 2019. You can check out the full list on OpenTable’s website.
Dyslexia Awareness Simulation:
October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. In honor of that, Dyslexia Action Group of Naperville and Everyone Reading Illinois teamed up to simulate what people with the learning disability go through. About 70 community members attended the event at the 95th Street Library, taking part in different activities reflecting the struggles those with dyslexia can face. The event wrapped up with community members expressing what they felt during the simulation and a Q&A.
