Ribfest Opening Day Acts
We heard it from our friends the Exchange Club of Naperville they have their opening acts for the inaugural Romeoville Ribfest. Rock bands REO Speedwagon and STYX will hit Romeoville stage on same night on Thursday, July 2 on the Navistar Main Stage. Long time fan favorites, the bands have performed multiple times at Ribfest before. Proceeds from the Exchange Club of Naperville’s four-day event will go towards several not-for-profit organizations with the goal of eliminating child abuse and domestic violence.
Park District’s Tax Levy
The hot topic at last night’s park district board meeting was taxes. Though the board passed the 2019 tax levy totaling $21,785,491, two commissioners voted against it. Commissioners Bill Eagan and Josh McBroom said the levy was unnecessary to meet budget requirements and maintain the district’s AAA bond rating. However, those voting in favor cited the scheduled minimum wage increases over the next several years as reasons for their support. The final vote on the item was 5-2.
Mayor’s Community Breakfast
Breakfast was served early this morning for the Naperville YMCA’S Mayor’s Interfaith Community Breakfast. Community members gathered at the YMCA to celebrate the spirit of the season. Originally started by former Naperville Mayor George Pradel, the event not only celebrates the holidays but also unites local leaders with prayer, music, and inspirational stories. The entire event will be broadcast tonight at 8 p.m. on our channel and website – NCTV17.com.
Shop With A Cop
It’s that time of year again where community members are in the spirit of giving, and the Naperville Police Department is doing just that. The Fraternal Order of Police hosted their annual Shop With a Cop event, in conjunction with Unity Partnership, giving underprivileged holiday shoppers a $100 gift card to Target. Over 50 community members were able to pick out toys, clothes, and much more, not only for themselves, but their loved ones as well.
