Riverwalk Duck Race:

It was a ducky day in downtown Naperville as 1,640 plastic ducks were let loose into the DuPage River for the annual Riverwalk Duck Race. The event, presented by Busey Bank Naperville and hosted by the Naperville Riverwalk Foundation, featured colorful quackers competing for top bill. Smaller ducks could be “adopted” for a fee to take part in the race, with the first, second, and third place birds taking home cash prizes. JUMBO ducks dressed up foot to beak to compete in the best-dressed competition. St. Patrick’s Residence Nursing and Rehabilitation’s nun-duck was named the finest feathered friend.

Dirty Jobs Host Coming to Town:

Dirty Jobs creator and host Mike Rowe is coming to Naperville in October. The former Discovery Channel star and best selling author is promoting his new book, The Way I Heard It, a companion to his popular podcast of the same name. Rowe will discuss the book with Chicago media personality Rick Kogan at North Central College’s Wentz Concert Hall on October 21 at 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by Anderson’s Bookshop, and ticket information is available on their website.

Free Senior Home Safety Surveys:

The Naperville Fire Department is now carrying out free Senior Home Safety Surveys. Those 65 and over and living independently can sign up for the free inspection by calling 630.305.7055 or emailing mclaughlins@naperville.il.us to get on their schedule.

D204 Kindergarten Preview:

Yesterday, kindergarten students and their parents from Indian Prairie School District 204 got a preview of the upcoming school year. Kids received some cool balloons from friendly clowns while parents got to learn about their kids’ bus route and food options. Families also had the opportunity to tour a school bus and learn about bus rules. Classes begin next Monday for all D204 schools.
