School Districts Ranked

Both District 203 and 204 are among the best in the state. Niche.com released their rankings of the best schools and school districts in Illinois. Both Naperville districts came inside the top ten, with District 203 ranked seventh overall and 204 taking the ninth spot. Neuqua Valley was the highest ranked high school across the two districts, coming in at 14th among Illinois public schools, but all five high schools were ranked in the top 30.

D203 Breakfast Program

District 203 schools will once again be getting free breakfast this year. At last night’s school board meeting, the group passed an extension of last school year’s free breakfast pilot which started at four schools: Mill Street and Scott Elementary, along with Jefferson and Madison Junior High. Eligible students can get an early meal for free courtesy of 203. Administration reported seeing positive effects the program already had on students’ education performance through the pilot. They estimate the program will cost roughly $58,000 to continue into the 2019-2020 school year.

Potential Riverwalk Changes

New developments may be coming to the Naperville Riverwalk. At the latest Riverwalk Planning, Design, and Construction Committee meeting commissioners shared ideas for improvements and new concepts. One idea was to extend the path, which currently ends at Hillside Road, down to Martin Avenue. There were also suggestions to add a gateway along the Eagle Street Plaza to make it more accessible for those physically impaired, and to partner with North Central College to build a Washington Street Park.

National Night Out

And if you’re looking to get out in the neighborhood, you can join the rest of the country tonight, celebrating National Night Out. Also called “America’s Night Out Against Crime,” the evening is meant to foster positive police-community relations and raise awareness for anti-crime efforts, all while having fun. At least 45 Naperville neighborhoods are participating, the full list of which you can find on the city’s website.
