SECA 2020 Allocations
Naperville is getting some new events next year. Last night, the Special Events and Cultural Amenities, or SECA, Commission, allocated just over $1 million from a 1% citywide food and beverage tax. The highest-grossing recipients include returning event the Last Fling with just over $172,000 and the newly formed Fourth of July event, “Naperville’s Salute,” with a little over $108,000. Other new events include Naper Pride’s Pride Fest with just over $83,000 and West Suburban Irish’s Irish Fest to receive about $16,000. These allocations will be presented to city council in January for their final approval. NCTV17 is also partially funded by a grant from SECA.
City Budget Workshop
Naperville city staff presented the first two elements of the 2020 City Budget to council members last night. City Manager Doug Krieger discussed economic development, including several key 2020 initiatives like the Downtown Streetscape, and new developments currently being built. Naperville’s services to residents were also touched on as city staff recommended the additions of eight new full-time staff members, including several on the city’s IT team. The next budget workshop will go over Naperville’s Public Safety budget and financial stability. That will be held on November 18.
248th Street Open House
Next week the public will be invited to discuss potential improvements to 248th avenue. The city is looking to gather input on how to improve the roadway for drivers, bikers, and pedestrians between 95th Street to 103rd. The meeting will take place at 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 7 at the 95th Street Library.
Bus Driver Awarded
Congrats go to First Student bus driver Holly Crawford, for being awarded the Indian Prairie Educational Foundation’s A+ Award. Crawford is the first bus driver to receive the monthly honor. Her Brooks Elementary students nominated her for her good sense of humor and kindness toward each of them. Every month IPEF and their partner Wells Fargo Advisors recognize an outstanding staff member, and together they donate $500 to the them to use in their school.a
