Blue ribbons around your trees can help raise awareness for an important cause this month.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, so to call attention to the issue, court appointed special advocates, or CASA, of DuPage is tying blue ribbons to the trees on the grounds of the DuPage County Courthouse.

“CASA of DuPage takes its job advocating for children in juvenile court very seriously,” said Executive Director of CASA, Lisa Drake. “And to come out here on the first Monday of each April and tie ribbons around the trees to increase awareness is extremely important to us and close to our heart. In addition we are recognizing and remembering the 75 children who died last year in Illinois due to abuse and neglect, so this is for them.”

Since 1993, CASA of DuPage County has served children in juvenile court suffering from abuse. Last year CASA advocated for 330 children, and are currently serving 226 kids.

Signs of child abuse include acting withdrawn, decreasing grades, or always wanting to stay away from home.

Talk to a doctor, teacher, coach, or a trusted adult if you suspect a friend or child is being abused.

CASA of DuPage County’s website lists ways that individuals, businesses, and schools, can help bring awareness to child abuse prevention month.
