A Safer Naper

With the new school year fast-approaching, the Naperville Police Department is making sure students stay safe.

August’s A Safer Naper topic is Back to School Safety. The NPD is reminding drivers of the precautions they need to take when passing through school zones.

“Children can be very unpredictable and they may be darting out of cars or they were on the sidewalk and then they’re in the streets. So you always want to remain cautious and keep an eye on your surroundings to make sure that you’re not surprised by a child darting out,” said Julie Smith, crime prevention specialist at the Naperville Police Department.

Student Safety

It’s not just drivers that need to stay alert. Students should always walk on sidewalks, stop at all crosswalks, and look both ways before crossing the street.

If you’re biking to school remember these tips too, and always come to a complete stop before crossing any road.

And one last tip, never pass a bus loading or unloading children.
