Books to Come to Life in Downtown Naperville

This summer books will come to life in a whole new way.

That’s thanks to the Downtown Naperville Alliance and their summer sculpture series featuring life-size open books.

15 benches shaped like open books will be fanned out all over Downtown Naperville after local artists and organizations put their decorative spin on them.

“Every year we have our downtown sculptures, but we always try to choose one that the public can participate in, so this is functional, you can sit on the bench, ‘sit a spell’ we say, and they’re actually just a really fun theme with summer reading and literacy and we think people will really enjoy them,” said Katie Wood, Executive Director of the Downtown Naperville Alliance.

The sculptures will be unveiled and put on display Father’s Day weekend in June and will stay until mid-September.

Each bench is sponsored by a local business, many who choose to donate the benches to charity auctions for purchase at the end of their display period.
