At the latest District 203 board meeting, Phase III of the Digital Learning Initiative was approved.
Starting this fall, every third through fifth grader will receive their own Chromebook for school work. And students in kindergarten and first grade will use iPads, two students to one device. Currently all junior high and high school students have Chromebooks as part of the Digital Learning Initiative.
The board also discussed the proposed calendar for the 2018-2019 school year, which is similar to the already approved 2017-2018 calendar, with two exceptions.
“An institute day that last year for the first time, this year for the second time and next year for the third time, will be held after the last day of students attendance in May or June. We propose moving that to January, right after winter break, effectively extending winter break for the students, but not for the adults, by one day. And we’re very excited about the opportunity to have a Professional Learning Day in January,” said Chief Operating Officer for District 203, Bob Ross.
It also features Columbus Day as a day off of school, which has not been the case in recent years.
The board will officially vote on the calendar at their second meeting in February.
