COD Oversight Change

A pact recently signed by Glen Ellyn trustees, and voted through by the College of DuPage board, would give oversight of the 273-acre campus back to the village on July 1.

In 2012, DuPage County was granted that right, after a dispute that began when the college erected 2 million dollars in electronic signs, without consulting the Village of Glen Ellyn. At that time, the college had threatened to de-annex from the village, – but the DuPage County regulatory oversight provision helped alleviate tensions.

Now with new leadership at the college, Glen Ellyn trustees have voted to undo that agreement, and resume oversight of administrative and regulatory matters like building codes and zoning, with any future regulatory disputes to be handled by an arbitrator. The move is designed to help rebuild trust between the two entities.

The DuPage County Board will vote on the agreement next month.
