To celebrate the first crop of summer corn, the Naperville Farmers Market on 5th Avenue held their first annual Corn Roast today.

Free samples of freshly cooked and buttered corn were given out all morning, donated by Evergreen Farm.

“We want to get the crowd of people back down to the farmers market. We’re trying to build the attendance back up because the attendance has been a little down,” said Farmer Steve Theis of Evergreen Farm. “We want the farmers market to grow back and come back like it was before; I use to sell twice as much corn as I’m selling now, so come back down now.”

The corny day was complete with a corn-husking contest for kids, and it was all ears for some live music.

A golden harvest the Naperville Farmers Market hopes to turn into tradition.
