This morning hundreds of fans waited in line outside city hall as Naperville became the first suburban stop on the Cubs World Series Trophy Tour.
The trophy brought early lines, one couple even getting to City Hall at 6:30 Friday night, making sure they had their chance with the trophy.
“We had to make sure we had our spots to see this trophy. 108 years…First in my lifetime. I’m not missing this,” said the first fan in line.
Fans braced the cold for hours all morning.
“Finally found out that doors open at 7 o’clock, being from Palatine I have to probably get up around 2 o’clock to be here at about 3:30 to be one of the first couple hundred people inside and here we are. Lucky to be here,” said Nick Ripkey of Palatine.
“My daughter made me do this,” joked Craig Borucki of Bolingbrook. “So I figured before she goes back to school tomorrow, back to Minnesota, she wanted to see the trophy so I said let’s do it, and we’re here!”
But once the doors opened, everyone was just happy to celebrate.
“Being here in Naperville, and seeing fans line up in a line that’s about a half a mile long at the moment and keeps getting longer and just to see the trophy is such a great story. It really tells the history of our team, it talks about the loyalty of our fans, and it talks about how exciting it is to have won a world championship,” said Mike Lufrano, the Vice President of Community Affairs for the Chicago Cubs.
The trophy stop in Naperville attracted both new and lifetime Cubs fans.
“It’s just been an amazing year for the Cubs, it really has. And then to be here and actually see the trophy, and just to watch their progress through the whole year has been very exciting,” said Sylvia Keene.
