In early February, District 204 marketing students proposed plans to redo an empty lot to the Naperville park district.
And now there is a winner! Announced at the first park board meeting of March, the group from Neuqua Valley High School took home the top prize, with their design titled “Dunbar Park” after Naperville’s first African-American woman, Sybil Dunbar.
“I want to say that we had a lot of fun doing this project and we want to thank all of Naperville and the community council and our teacher Mr. Moreau who helped us a lot,” said Ryan Gareis, a member of the winning team.
Located at 3252 Wolf’s Crossing Road, their proposed design would also feature a mini Wrigley Field and plenty of walking and biking paths. While this project was hypothetical, the park board has taken ideas from each group to incorporate in the actual plans for the space.
More than 300 students from Neuqua, Metea and Waubonsie drafted plans for the park.
