Indian Prairie School District 204 recently held an equity training session for some of their educators. The four course series aims to teach culturally responsive strategies to District 204 teachers.

Equity Training

Jennifer Rowe, the executive director of educational equity at District 204, hopes the session exposes teachers to different ways they can interact with their students.

“I think it’s really important for us to be mindful that students come from all different places, and the way they learn can be different,” said Rowe. “It’s really best practice for us to come to our classrooms and make sure we’re hitting them with many different avenues for receiving instruction.”

The equity training also taught teachers learning can be fun.

“The more ways we’re able to approach learning in the classroom that will insure its fun [and] engaging, kids [will] have the best opportunity that they can get the information that they need. Our teachers really appreciate it that we’re able give them the time to get the training that they need so they can do their best work with our kids,” said Rowe.

End Goal

Once the series on culturally responsive teaching strategies is complete educators will share with each other how’ve they implemented what they learn into their classrooms.
