DuPage River Trail Grows

The connection between Will and DuPage counties has been made that much easier.

That’s thanks to a new segment on the DuPage River Trail, which was recently completed as part of a 25 year long initiative.

“This trail segment is 1.25 miles. So it doesn’t sound like it’s a very long connection and it really isn’t. But it’s an important one,” said Ralph Schultz, the COO for the Forest Preserve District of Will County. “And we had been working with our neighbors directly to the east of us at the Elmhurst-Chicago Stone Company, whom we originally purchased a lot of the acreage here at Whalon Lake. And the timing was just right.”

The DuPage River Trail system connects Whalon Lake in Will County with Greene Valley Forest Preserve in DuPage, spanning nearly 30 miles overall.

The Forest Preserve District of Will County is planning to continue adding to the DuPage River Trail, for it to travel 40 miles from Channahon north into DuPage County.
