October is Dyslexia Awareness Month and some Naperville organizations are helping others gain insight into the challenges of living with dyslexia.
Parents, families and teachers were given the opportunity to participate in a dyslexia simulation hosted by the Naperville Public Library, the Dyslexia Action Group of Naperville, and Everyone Reading Illinois.
Those at the event got to write, listen and read in ways similar to someone with dyslexia.
“The exercises and the instruction tonight will help teachers, new parents who have a new diagnosis, will help them become more familiar with what their kids need to get through their education,” said Lisa Gardina, Co-Founder of Dyslexia Action Group of Naperville.
An estimated 20 percent of the population has dyslexia.
