These plaques nailed to select houses in Downtown Naperville showcase the history of our town’s past.
But several have outlasted their original glory. That’s where Dylan Kingston stepped in. The soon to be senior at Benet Academy and Boy Scout from Troop 510 in Naperville designed his Eagle Scout project to help preserve our town’s history.
“I devised a plan to bring everyone together and we almost went through a scavenger hunt in Downtown Naperville, and went through and found all of the signs that really needed replacement and it came out close to about 20, so we chose the worst out of those and we decided to replace them,” said Kingston.
From there Dylan and about 20 volunteers began the process to remake the plaques from scratch – carving the wood, painting them and sending them out to a printing press to be marked.
Once complete, Dylan hand-delivered several signs to the homeowners and left a lasting mark on the City of Naperville.
“I like the fact that I’ll be able to come back 20 or 30 years from now and point at a sign and say I built that for my Eagle Scout project,” he said.
Dylan and his volunteers raised the money for lumber, paint and printing of the plaques.
