Indian Prairie School District board members have authorized emergency repairs to Welch Elementary after officials discovered a “wall deficiency” there in the two-story south section of the building.

Contract authorized for repair work

The school board on Tuesday night authorized a contract for time and materials with Grove Masonry, IMEG Engineering and Pepper Construction to complete the work beginning this week and continuing a few weeks into the school year.

The district estimates the work at Welch in south Naperville, “along with the engineering costs and construction manager costs, will not exceed $400,000,” according to a memo from John Robinson, director of building operations.

Classroom shift to accommodate work

The Welch principal will move two classrooms and a small staff office while the work is underway.

“Our engineer, construction manager and contractor all feel this work can be done successfully in a couple of months while everyone is safe during repair,” Robinson said in the memo.
