With a scoop of the shovel, the Forest Preserve District of Will County broke ground on a new extension of Normantown Trail.

The project consists of a .85-mile conversion of Normantown Road north of 119th Street into a 10-foot wide hiking and cycling trail.

This is part of a wider 4.7-mile Normantown Trail that will run from 135th Street in Plainfield up to Wolf Road in Naperville.

“That also in conjunction with trail networks in the Village of Plainfield and City of Naperville, it would be a logical connection between those,” said Andrew Hawkins, director of planning and development for the Will County Forest Preserve.

“It’s another step towards a goal of connectivity. One of the key components of the village’s strategic plan is to improve connections and this project furthers that goal,” said Mayor of Plainfield Michael Collins.

About .15 mile will remain as shared use so residential vehicles can reach Rockwell Lane from 119th Street.

This section of the trail should be complete by July 2019.
