A colorful spring is in the air, literally.
Today the Grand Pavilion on the Naperville Riverwalk was full of vibrant people celebrating the 8th annual Festival of Colors.
The idea behind the tossing of the colors is to throw your worries to the wind and to promote friendship and love.
“Just the spirit of the whole thing, and just being open to new things coming. It’s almost like a new year,” said attendee Colette Shelby.
“And where else can you throw colors at people and then be excited about it, you know,” said Amber Soto, an attendee.
Known as Holi to Hindu culture, the festival welcomed springtime with food, music, and of course, plenty of organic, starch based color to go around.
“It’s a great time for everyone, for families, for friends, and little kids too, anyone of any age, I’ve even seen some dogs that enjoy it. So it’s just a great time to spend with family and friends,” said Matt Goss, an attendee for the last few years.
“And I like to celebrate spring a lot,” said attendee Ume Soto.
All profits of the Festival of Colors go to Simply Vedic, a local non-profit that puts on the festival every year.
