Ryan Companies and city staff recently gathered together for this month’s Fifth Avenue project meeting at the Municipal Center.
The groups reviewed last month’s Naperville City Council workshop and the results of the most recent online community survey, and discussed the growing steering committee, which gained its commuter representative on January 9.
“So we’re in the process right now of defining-getting all the representatives for the steering committee and some of them were specifically defined, others we wanted a representative from the Pilgrim Addition Neighborhood, wanted a representative from the Westside Homeowners Association, the Eastside Homeowners Association, Park Addition has two representatives,” said Amy Emery, the strategic project supervisor for the City of Naperville.
As the steering committee continues to form, both city staff and Ryan Companies see the Fifth Avenue development gaining momentum into the New Year with the help of the community.
“We are still at this point trying to understand what the issues are out there,” said Emery. “In early 2018 we’ll be taking a deeper dive into those issues so that we can understand, for example with storm water, where are the problems occurring, what are some possible solutions to address those things. And then as we get further into the year then we will be putting these ideas into form. That’s when we’ll be talking about what land uses and development opportunities and open spaces could be in this area and we absolutely need a great deal of community input on that.”
The Fifth Avenue project is still in phase two of its redevelopment plan, but it is possible that as soon as this spring, phase three could begin with early financial and visual concepts presented to the community and city council.
