Fishing creel limits are changing for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
Beginning April 1, new rules go into effect regarding the amount and size of certain fish you are able to keep after catching in DuPage County forest preserves.
“The regulations hadn’t been updated for at least 12 years, and some of the data that we have suggests that many of our lakes need a change, large mouth bass in particular,” said Fisheries Ecologist with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, Dan Grigas. “Our catch rate goal for our lake management plans is about 60 fish per hour when we do our spring fishing surveys, and we’re getting catch rates almost double on many of our lakes.”
Many of the changes were made to simplify regulations for anglers, and promote healthy fish populations in lakes and ponds.

April 1 is also the first day of trout season for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County.
