The W-2’s and W-9’s showing up in your mailbox are a tangible reminder that it’s time for taxes.
But several organizations in town are trying to take the sting out of the process, by offering free tax help, like the library.
“With the launch of our new website we wanted to have a place to go online that is a comprehensive, organized list of all the tax resources available. You can download your state and federal tax forms there, and you can find local organizations that will help you with your taxes,” said Multimedia Associate with the Naperville Public Library, Mary Rogers.
Organizations like the Notre Dame Club of Greater DuPage, which is offering free assistance to households making $54,000 or less a year at the 95th Street Library on select Saturdays, with February 25, March 4, 11 and 25 all available for qualifying residents. No appointments needed, just show up between 9 a.m. and noon on those days, and you’ll be helped on a first-come, first-served basis.
Loaves and Fishes has volunteer income tax assistance ready to help from January 30 all the way up to tax day. Those sessions are by appointment only; you can call 630-355-3663 to set one up.
And the AARP Foundation also has a tax-aide program, focused especially on seniors, but open to any middle and low income households. Volunteers will be at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center from February 6 through April 12, just call the Naperville Park District to make an appointment.
Before you head to any of the clinics make sure to have all your paperwork in order, to make the process go quickly and smoothly.
