Pumpkin Smash

Kids had a smashing time at the second annual Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana’s Pumpkin Smash!

“As Girl Scouts, the environment is really important to us. So I think it’s awesome to educate girls on how we can protect our Earth and how they can do their part,” said Girl Scouts Outdoor Program Coordinator Lauren Somogyi. “And so composting pumpkins after Halloween is a great opportunity to bring the food, or the pumpkin back to the Earth in a fun way.”

Smashing from Ladders

With the event at Camp Greene Wood open to the public, there were plenty of kids around – all of them climbing up the ladders to drop the orange fruit from the perfect pulpy plop.

And if that wasn’t enough, they were able to hammer away at their pumpkins until they were a smashed mess.
