Good Shepherd Has A New Pastor

A local church has taken on a new leader.

“It’s just been an incredibly warm welcome from the congregation. It’s been overwhelming,” said Mark Carlsson, the new lead pastor at Good Shepherd Church.

Lessons from Abroad

He has taken over the leadership role after spending the last 16 years living in Sweden. Carlsson, who is half-Swedish half-American, went to seminary in the Chicago area and said it’s always felt like home here.

He’s excited to bring some of the things he’s learned in Sweden to his new congregation in Naperville.

“One of the things I found in Sweden is that there is less and less knowledge about what the faith is all about and I think America is actually becoming more like Europe in that sense,” said Carlsson. “And so it’s exciting to think about applying some of those things that we learned in Europe and in Sweden to how things are developing in our country too.”

A New Voice at Good Shepherd

Carlsson said one of the things he likes about Good Shepherd is the two different worshipping styles – the more formal sanctuary services and relaxed preaching in the worship center.

Good Shepherd is active in the community, with events like Feed the Need and Sleep Out Saturday.

Bringing a new voice to the vocation.
