Groundbreaking
The Martin Avenue Apartments are on their way to a renovation.
With the lift of their shovels, architects, board members, and other community contributors helped celebrate the start of the $30 million project.
What’s New?
“Twelve to 15 months from now we’ll have an additional 68 units over there,” said Dave Weeks, the President of Naperville Elderly Homes pointing to the south of the current building. “These people will have walk-in showers, we’ll have at theater downstairs, [and] high tech classrooms. We see this as a gift to the community.”
Along with the addition and a solarium, Naperville Elderly Homes will be rehabbing the existing building and its 122 units.
More Affordability
It’s all for low-income seniors, whose rent won’t be increasing after renovations either.
This comes as the need for more affordable housing in Naperville has been a hot topic at city meetings.
Behind the Project
NEH was able to make the renovations happen with the help of $14 million of low-income housing tax credits from the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
Evergreen Construction and Wight Construction manage the renovations, while Worn Jerabek Wiltse Architects designed the overall project. It’s all slated for completion by the summer of 2020.
